Be Happy!

And now a quote from me. "Why sulk alone about your past when you could be laughing with your friends in the present?".

It's my new motto. I've realized that the most memorable moments aren't slumping in a murky corner feeling sorry for yourself, they consist of laughing with friends and enjoying yourself. Don't spend your time worrying about what other people think about you. That's their problem and it won't affect you. If they don't like you, oh well. Just be yourself!

When you feel happy, your entire outlook flips from a pessimistic "I'm miserable and the world and everything in it sucks" to an optimistic "This is the life! Who cares about that little problem, I love life!".

My father used to tell me to be more serious. I, on the other hand, felt a little flippancy here and there was useful.

Our conversations went something like this:

Dad: You need to be more serious. You won't get good grades if you're not serious.

Me: Dad, I'm an A student. Why are grades so important, anyway?

Dad: You're in 3rd grade. (I was in third grade then.) School will be harder (boy, was he right!) and if you don't focus, you won't pass your classes. Grades are important so you can go to a good college and get a good job, so you can be successful in life.

Me: Do you really think the college is going to care about my grades as much as the SATS?

Dad: No, but they will look at them. If you aren't serious about the SATs, you won't do well. You won't be successful in life.

Me: Yes, I will. When I'm on my death bed, if someone asks me if my life was successful, I don't want to say, "Yes, it was successful because I had a high paying job,"! I want to say, "Yeah, because my life was fun!". That's the most memorable part of life.

Dad: Life isn't about fun and games.

Me: Life isn't about money and academics, either, or else cavemen never existed. Life's about enjoying yourself, which is called F-U-N FUN.
